The Pending Move of MavPR East Unearths Archaeological Treasure Trove of Giveaway Tees

The principals of Maverick PR have been around for a long time.  A REALLY long time.  If you haven’t checked out our BIG HUGE LIST of the games we have worked on — go look at it now (always being updated)– we’ll wait…  OK, so now you’ve seen we’re older than dirt and have worked on just about every platform and genre there is in video games.

Tony Down With the Fuji

This is probably an unnecessary look for a drug kingpin...

With the pending move of MavPR East to a new location, everything is being turned upside down, sorted through, tossed out and/or repacked.  And within that process, we’ve unearthed a satisying cache of gaming tee shirts from years past.  For some reason, it’s difficult to part with certain shirts — the Quakecon tee shirts are a great example.  I haven’t worn them in years, but they’ve been sitting here in my office with me for MORE THAN A DECADE!

While dozens of other shirts have been given away already to various folks, including a pretty happy nephew… these shirts have survived the test of time, dodging the major culls of the past and taking up my storage space… indefinitely.

I mean Quakecon 1999?  1999!?!?!?

So here is a look at some of the shirts (and a hat) that roam about the office.  If any strike your fancy, let us know… maybe we’ll send it to you.  Except the UT04 jerseys, those are going to make their long-promised and super… uh… epic pilgrimage back to… well… Epic!

I would like to thank my life-size Tony Montana, from Scarface: The World Is Yours, for agreeing to be the model in this photo shoot.  Cue the techno music!

World famous video game PR maestro (as well as Maverick PR Partner) Matt Frary was recently approached by up-and-coming video game site TheGameEffect to take part in their ongoing series, “Unsung Heroes.”

  • ED: if you missed the previous interview with Matt which ran on GamerFitNation, check it out here.

Unsung Heroes is a cool series wherein writers talk to some of the lesser known folks working behind-the-scenes to put video games on players’ proverbial tables.  You know… NOT the Cliff Bleszinskis or the David Jaffes… we’re talking the guys behind the guys behind the guy.  Between producers and marketers and PR folks and testers and art designers and level builders… there are a lot of people that help deliver the games we love to play.

When something straight-up awesome-looking comes floating across a game PR person’s desk, that’s when our jobs become even more fun than they already are.  And for anyone who has seen even a teensy bit of Nathan Jurevicius’ award-winning graphic novel Scarygirl, they already know that awesome-looking doesn’t begin to describe the eye-patched, tentacled, stitch-mouthed cute girl with a  hook…

Kim Swift and the Airtight Team Prepare for Their Panel at PAX Prime 2011

SEATTLE — We’re excited to announce, for those who do not already know, that Maverick PR is working on the next great game from designer Kim Swift, co-creator of Portal, entitled Quantum Conundrum.

That’s right!  And honestly, we can’t be any more excited that Square Enix turned to us when they needed a monster PR announcement for this important upcoming downloadable title.

Not only is the game flat-out amazing (DLC is really coming a long, long way), but you see, Kim was also an integral team leader for a pair of our own in-house favorite titles — Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2. Oh the many hours we’ve logged blasting Zombies and yelling at one another for release from a pesky Smoker… but that’s another story all together, people. read more

Nothing Comes Between Us and Our Coverage

There is a good looking man in this photo. Unfortunately, he's the one IN the GAME.

So, we’ve been working with Square Enix on their upcoming Action-RPG NIER for quite a while now, releasing cool videos, feature assets packs and providing product demos.  Sure, we haven’t said SQUAT about the story details… but we’ve been setting the stage for some big reveals.

But you know what?  That wasn’t enough.  Oh, no, we had to go all the way, and put a public face on the game.  And that face?  None other than MavPR Partner, Matt Frary.

BREAKING NEWS: PR Firm Finds Client’s Product to be “Awesome”

Ya ya… but in this case, it happens to be TRUE.  If you haven’t seen the news and review pouring in about the ASTRO Gaming A30 Cross-Gaming Headsets, you’re missing out.  Especially if you happen to be one of the following people on this earth:

  • Xbox360 or PS3 Gamer
  • PC Gamer
  • DS, PSP Gamer
  • iPod/iPhone, Blackberry User and Gamer
  • Skype User
  • Music Listener
  • Movie Watcher

OK, so I know you’re covered in that list. And if you are, than you already know how hard it is to find headphones that can let you listen and talk through Xbox Live, move to your PC, and then still be cool looking enough and flexible enough to plug into your iPhone and take out on the streets.

This is what the A30 does.  But don’t take my word for it.  Check out IGN’s review, where the A30s receive the highest headset rating to date. Take that Tritton and Turtle Beach.  :)

I use mine every day to Skype, talk on my Berry, listen to music, and to kill YOU in Left 4 Dead 2 PC.

Maverick PR Hops On Board with InfoNet Digital to Promote Hello Kitty Parachute Paradise

That’s right – this PR company is NOT a one-trick pony!  I mean, sure you’re talking to the guys that worked on the Unreal and D&D titles for years, but let’s not forget – we’ve also worked on games like Pajama Sam, Backyard Sports, Spyro the Dragon and Crash Bandicoot.

In keeping with that diversified spirit, we’re happy to announce that we’re working with InfoNet Digital to promote their new iPhone/iPod Touch game, Hello Kitty Parachute Paradise.

This new app provides not only a fun and addicting game that challenges players to jump higher and higher while collecting special and rare items, but also an interactive and customizable application in which Hello Kitty fans can pose their own personalized scene featuring Hello Kitty and many of the other great Sanrio characters.  These scenes can filled with items collected from the game to create unique looks, and then can be used as wallpaper and shared online with other Hello Kitty fans.

Big news for MavPR – we’re really excited to say that we are officially working with Square Enix on their upcoming strategy game, Order of War, due this Fall from developer Wargaming.net.  On this project, MavPR is developing and supporting the community as well as conducting outreach in support of the core PR team.

We’re doubly excited on this one because this project brings us onboard with a former client who previously hired us at Vivendi/Sierra.  We’re always really proud and excited to join up with someone we’ve worked with in the past.

So keep an eye out for Order of War.  You can already jump in at the Facebook Page or on the Steam Official Group and Steam Forums.  Official game forums coming soon…
